I just tackled the easiest DIY project to ever exist yesterday morning. I've really liked flower crowns ever since I first saw several style bloggers wearing them, but I've never desired to have one until recently. I looked into buying one, but they can be quite expensive, and I don't like to pay that much money for something I'm not going to wear extremely often. Then, like a big, fat bag of revenge-starved bricks, it hit me. I could make one!
And so...I did.
Want to make one, too? Here's how:
You will need...
- a fabric-covered headband (I used a thick, soft, cushy one for comfort)
- fake flowers, same or various sizes and colors (dollar store!)
- hot glue gun
- glue sticks (for the hot glue gun, of course)
How to:
1. Plug in your glue gun and let it heat up.
2. While the glue gun is heating up, pop your flowers off the stems. They should just pull right off.
3. Snip the remaining green stem off the bottoms of the flowers. Be careful not to cut too closely to the base because your flower could fall apart. If it does fall apart, you can just hot glue the flower petals together. Super easy fix, so don't toss it out!
4. Think about how you want the flowers arranged on the headband. Play around with it before gluing them down.
5. When you're happy with your arrangement, start gluing! When gluing, I like to put a dot of glue on the headband where I'm going to place the flower and a dot on the base of the flower to give it a nice, strong hold. Press down gently for several seconds (20-30) until the glue begins to dry.
6. Voila! Wear your creation proudly!
Now, I'm kicking myself for not even thinking about taking progression photos while I was making it. But you know, when you're set on doing something, and you're really excited about it, your mind works a little like a tunnel until you've completed your goal. In short, I apologize for the lack of before photos, but if you have any questions that my instructions don't answer, please leave a comment below, and I'll get back to you for sure!
Also, if you don't have a glue gun, don't worry. They are very inexpensive. I got
mine at Walmart for about $3.00. A small bag of glue sticks are usually about $5.00. The flowers I used totaled to$3.00 and I already had the headband at home, but let's just say...what? $3.00-$5.00 for a sturdy headband? If you had to buy everything -- glue gun, glue sticks, flowers and headband -- it'd cost you around $20.00, and honestly, that's a high estimate. Most likely, it'd be less than that. Since I had everything but the flowers, it cost me only $3.00! You can't beat that!
If you make one, I'd love to see them!
