This jacket has a lot of sentimental value to it. It's my mother's last birthday gift to me. A couple of weeks before her death, she said that she was sending me a gift card, and that I was to buy something nice with it. She never actually mailed the card, and instead, it was found in her car, sealed and stamped, in the aftermath of her passing.

When Josh handed it to me that day, I opened it immediately, and Mom's hand-written note brought me to tears. It was an odd feeling. It was like she was speaking to me from beyond the grave. My first thought was "no, you won't be there to talk because you're dead". Now, whenever I pull it from its special place on my vanity and re-read it, it resounds hopeful. She knew Jesus, and I know Jesus, and because we believe(d) in Him, I'll get to see her again when God calls me home. I'm in no hurry to die, of course, but I look forward to the day I meet her again, in sinless bodies that death cannot touch. And maybe I'll get to tell her about this jacket. If she were alive today, I think she'd be really happy with my choice of "something nice".

P.S. Thanks, ModCloth, for a beautiful piece that reminds me fondly of my mother. When it's not on my back (which is often), it's hanging lovingly in my closet.

Love the outfit so much... the jacket goes so well and it is great that it has meaning behind it. Personally, I love the skirt too!

Oh gosh, I found your blog through the Modcloth style gallery and I am just in love with your style! I am so sorry about your mom's passing, but I think it's wonderful that you can think of her every time you wear this jacket - which is positively gorgeous. I'll definitely be following along :)

I am sure that your mother would be proud of how you remember her and in your "something nice". Your jacket looks absolutely fabulous on you and is such a great staple in your wardrobe! I am so sorry to hear about your mother, but so happy to see the positive way you can remember her.
